Crown headlines a crowded weekend of grappling in Long Beach

Defending champions Galvão, Stuart and Murasaki return Sunday as ADCC Brazilian Nationals and Fight to Win 329 also run

LONG BEACH — The fourth IBJJF Crown takes place Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Pyramid in Long Beach. It has six weight divisions with eight athletes each and a cash prize for each winner, and it streams on FloGrappling. Reigning champions Sarah Galvão (women's lightweight) and Nolan Stuart (men's heavyweight) are confirmed. Andy Murasaki is entered at middleweight, and 12-time world champion Gabi Pessanha is seeking another Crown title. The Vetoraci twins were added to the heavyweight and ultra-heavyweight fields. The same weekend, FloGrappling's schedule lists ADCC Brazilian Nationals, Fight to Win 329 and the PBJJF Alliance Cup North America. ADCC Austin Open follows on Nov. 14. This item adds the weekend's wider slate to the earlier bracket report.

Why it mattersThe Crown is the IBJJF's richest invitational and the last big gi showcase of the year, so Sunday's results will shape the 2026 gi-ranking debate.

BJJ Heroes tally shows Europe's best medal haul and a record young champion in Kraków

KRAKÓW — BJJ Heroes' tally of the 2026 ADCC World Championship in Kraków, Poland, counted 50 submissions in 103 non-open-weight matches, or 48.5 percent. Chokes from back control led with 19 finishes, followed by straight ankle locks and triangles with six each. Europe won eight medals, two of them gold, its best total at the event, while South America took nine. Helena Crevar, 19, became the youngest women's champion and won every match by submission. Fourteen-year-old Joslyn Molina became the youngest medalist, taking bronze. Victor Hugo won the over-99kg gold using only bottom game and said he would retire from ADCC. Dorian Olivarez was disqualified after a scuffle involving fans of an opponent, Bekzat Kapashov, a decision that drew fan criticism.

Why it mattersThe data show where elite no-gi is heading and how far European and young athletes have moved up as ADCC shares the pro market with UFC BJJ and others.

FloGrappling chief admits platform lags, promises search and tech overhaul

General manager Ben Kovacs cites weak search and missing video controls ahead of a 2027 rebuild

FloGrappling general manager Ben Kovacs has publicly conceded that the streaming platform falls short in several areas and said a rebuild is planned. In remarks reported Nov. 5 by BJJDoc, he said the biggest problem is search, which makes it hard for athletes and coaches to find matches or scout opponents. Basic controls such as 10-second skip and rewind are also in development after an athlete raised their absence. Kovacs said the grappling side of the business has had little back-end investment for about a year and a half, and that this will change next year. He also floated using artificial intelligence and data analysis to turn the match archive into a scouting tool. The comments come as FloGrappling streams the Crown this Sunday. The interview is not independently confirmed.

Why it mattersFloGrappling is the main outlet for IBJJF, ADCC and many other events, so its technical shortcomings affect fans, coaches and athletes across the sport.

UPDATEWhite confirms Makhachev verbally agreed to UFC 336 title fight before withdrawing

Prates will meet Morales for the interim welterweight belt in Toronto on Jan. 30

LAS VEGAS — UFC president Dana White said this week that welterweight champion Islam Makhachev verbally agreed to defend his title against Carlos Prates at UFC 336 before he pulled out. That is new detail beyond Prates' public complaint that the champion ducked him. The card is set for Toronto on Jan. 30, 2027. Makhachev has decided to wait until after Ramadan to return. Prates will now meet unbeaten Michael Morales for the interim title. White said he does not expect a champion to fight three times a year, but that twice would be nice. He framed the interim bout as a way to keep the division moving. Makhachev has told the UFC his next fight will be one of the last of his career, per ESPN's headline. The undisputed title picture is now frozen until after Ramadan.

Why it mattersA champion's agreed-then-withdrawn title defense leaves the welterweight division on an interim belt, and the UFC is publicly criticizing its own champion's activity.

UPDATEWhite shrugs off Miragliotta stand-up row, sends referee pay question to Nevada

Referee has offered to explain the Moicano call if the commission allows it

LAS VEGAS — UFC president Dana White spoke publicly for the first time on referee Dan Miragliotta's stand-up in the UFC Vegas 123 main event. He said the UFC had not discussed it and that he did not know what to think. The referee restarted Renato Moicano and Tom Nolan on the feet while Moicano held Nolan's back with a body triangle. Nolan then took over and finished Moicano in round three, at 1:28. White described the standard as whether a fighter is doing damage or trying to win. Asked about the criticism over pay, which grew after John McCarthy said the most he was ever paid for a UFC card was $2,000, White said that is up to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Daniel Cormier has called for Miragliotta to be pulled from upcoming shows. Miragliotta has said he would explain his reasoning in public if the commission authorizes it.

Why it mattersThe episode puts Nevada's referee standards and pay under scrutiny at the sport's most important regulator, while the UFC declines to take a position.

UFC revenue jumps 60% to $519 million in TKO's third quarter

Record gate from UFC 329 and higher media-rights income lift TKO, which raises its full-year outlook

NEW YORK — TKO Group reported that UFC revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30 rose by $194.0 million to $519.2 million, from $325.2 million a year earlier. UFC adjusted EBITDA rose to $285.3 million, from $165.6 million. TKO's total revenue was $1.360 billion, with net income of $277.9 million. The company raised its 2026 guidance to $5.79 billion to $5.83 billion in revenue. TKO's investor release attributes the live-event gain to record ticket sales at UFC 329 and to two additional events. The company's quarterly filing says UFC 329 produced the highest gross gate ever for a UFC numbered event. Over nine months, UFC revenue reached $1.456 billion. UFC's costs also grew, partly because of those added events and the higher cost of UFC 329.

Why it mattersThe figures show the commercial strength behind the UFC's matchmaking and its dealings with fighters, officials and rival promotions.
