Jaworski wins Rome double gold to complete No-Gi Grand Slam bid
BJJ Heroes: 2026 IBJJF European No-Gi Championship Results

UPDATEJaworski wins Rome double gold to complete No-Gi Grand Slam bid

The Polish Academia Gorila star submitted his way to the 85kg and open-class titles at the European No-Gi; teammate Kapuscinska also doubled.

ROME — Pawel Jaworski won both the 85kg and open-class black-belt titles at the IBJJF European No-Gi Championship, according to BJJ Heroes' results. BJJ Heroes counts eight submissions in eight matches. The 85kg title was the one the IBJJF had said he needed to become the federation's first No-Gi Grand Slam champion of the 2025-26 season. He had already taken the Brasileiro and Pan No-Gi titles, and the 2025 World No-Gi at 85kg. Teammate Martyna Kapuscinska also took the 71kg and open-class titles, finishing all six of her matches by submission. She beat Nia Blackman by Aoki lock in the 71kg final, per BJJ Heroes' results. The IBJJF's own results page shows Academia Gorila first in the team standings with 43 points. The IBJJF has not yet been seen formally confirming the Grand Slam; the claim rests on its pre-event description of the criteria.

Why it mattersA first-ever No-Gi Grand Slam, if the IBJJF ratifies it, would mark a historic season for a leg-lock specialist from outside Brazil and the US.

Aghayev takes world No. 1 at 60kg after Abu Dhabi Grand Slam
IJF: UAE welcomes the judo world at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam draw

Aghayev takes world No. 1 at 60kg after Abu Dhabi Grand Slam

Only one of the 14 weight-class leaders changed in the latest IJF World Ranking List.

ABU DHABI — Azerbaijan's Balabay Aghayev is the new world number one at 60kg after winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, JudoInside reported on Monday. He moved from third to first in the latest IJF World Ranking List, passing compatriot and reigning world champion Yusifov. He was the only athlete to take over a top spot; the leaders in the other 13 categories are unchanged. The report also noted rankings gains for Abu Dhabi winners Hassan Doukkali of Morocco (73kg), Fawaz (57kg), Petru Pelivan of Moldova (81kg) and Bifov. Abu Dhabi was the first World Judo Tour stop since the Baku World Championships, and the IJF said Olympic qualification continues there. Next on the judo calendar are the Zagreb Grand Prix and the Tokyo Slam, which earlier coverage listed.

Why it mattersWorld rankings feed LA28 qualification, so a change at the top of the 60kg list affects Olympic seeding and quota places.

UFC's November slate: Prochazka-Stirling in Qatar, Albazi-Costa flyweight rematch

Promotion previews three cards with title pictures set to shift in several divisions

AL RAYYAN, Qatar — The UFC's November preview points to three cards that will defend two titles and sharpen several divisional pictures. On Nov. 21 in Al Rayyan, Qatar, Jiri Prochazka meets Navajo Stirling in the headline fight. The card also features a flyweight rematch between Amir Albazi and Alessandro Costa. The UFC says Costa is 3-0 this year with three stoppages, the latest a second-round submission of Cody Durden at UFC 329 in July. It called it astounding that he is not ranked in either top-15 set. Elsewhere in the month, Caio Borralho, 8-1 in the Octagon, faces Dutch contender Belgaroui after he withdrew from a planned fight with Joe Pyfer at UFC 330. Heavyweights Waldo Cortes Acosta and Johnny Walker meet in the new UFC Vegas 124 main event on Nov. 7. Walker made his heavyweight debut at UFC 332 with a knockout of Mick Parkin.

Why it mattersRematches and ranking-sensitive bouts will decide who moves up in the flyweight, middleweight and heavyweight divisions.
